Bodum Schiuma Battery-Operated Turbo Milk Frother, Black

Product Description

Now with a NEW & IMPROVED spiral frothing tip, the bodum Battery Operated Turbo Frother froths milk quickly and easily, allowing you to make barista quality drinks at home. Simply insert the whip end into cold milk and then push the easy touch on/off button. The bodum Turbo Frother whips into action, creating a nice froth that will last longer than froth made with a machine because you haven't introduced steam and water to froth the milk. Can be used on warm or cold milk, but it works better with cold milk. The Turbo Frother is also a great tool for mixing homemade salad dressing, protein shakes and other light mixing/blending. Lightweight and easy to use, the Turbo Frother has a black plastic case and steel frothing wand. Two AA batteries are required.

Customer Buzz
I can't say enough good things about the Bodun beverage frother. I like that even my kids could operate it and make frothed milk for a snack or for cocoa. Skim through whole milk comes out very nice, and is a great way to make the NY style egg creams. I used it every day for a child on a special diet who needed cream, coffee and oil well blended, and it did just that.
My only two gripes about the product are 1) the kids would get absentminded and drop it in the dishwater after using it when I was doing dishes, and it's not a waterproof design. I had to dry out the batteries and inside well before use, and 2) I smashed it by dropping it on the kitchen floor, all the panels came off and I couldn't get the electric circuit to work again. But I will be buying the same one shortly because of the cost and excellent results!

I enjoy coffee and I enjoy the process of making drinks. I would love to have La Marzocco equipment, but I'd have to trade my car for it and I'm not in the business so I just can't justify it. Fortunately, I am very adept at developing finesse with even the least adaquate equipment. For example, I can steam beautiful microfoam with the cheapest junk "espresso" machine (think Krups) 2 out of 3 times (I cannot make good espresso with it ever). I'm hoping to develop that kind of finesse with this gadget as well.

The Schiuma certainly foams milk quite adquately, but the trick is to avoid any large bubbles and to develop only the smoothest microfoam. For this task, the little gadget is a challenge. The most careless use of it will certainly only result in "dishsoap."

Besides foaming milk for coffee drinks or simply for hot milk, the Schiuma is an excellent wisk for small quantities of other things like cream and eggs. I normally use a large mixing bowl and a wire wisk to whip cream or beat egg whites into foam, but it is not practical if I only need a single serving of whip cream or to foam just one or two egg whites. This gadget, on the other hand, is just the right size and the tiny strokes effected by the little motor's spinning action are just right for a small container. I wish it had a smooth variable speed control but it can be pulsed to control splattering.

I bought it at a local store in the ten dollar range. It does have the Bodum name, but it is just a Chinese-made plastic gadget. It is not the kind of hand-made in Portugal chromed-brass and borosilicate glass gems that lend cachet to the name.

this thing is great. it's small, easy to clean, runs on standard AA batteries and it's pretty versatile. yes, it froths milk just fine. my recommendation is to do this while the milk is cold and then microwave it to warm it. you can use it to mix just about anything you'd stir though. i've made eggs, hot cocoa, gravy..

I originally rated this one star and would like to change it, but Amazon's edit feature won't let me. Anyway.. at the time I gave it one star, i could not get it to froth my soy milk. Turns out, you have to froth it in a completely different way from the manual press frother:

1. Get cup/mug/beaker of COLD soy milk.
2. Insert electric frother and turn on, moving frother up and down in and out of the soy milk.
3. You will quickly get large head of decent foam. Don't get too much, because...
4. Put in microwave and heat as desired. Foam will QUICKLY GO CRAZY IN MICROWAVE, DOUBLING YOUR AMOUNT OF FOAM.
5. Use as desired.

I give this a 4 star foam experience. :-)

It gave great foam for the first six months and didn't run through batteries too quickly. Then it stopped working altogether at about 7 months out. It was getting used about three or four times a week (at most) during it's life so I'm thinking next time I'll just buy the $2 one at Ikea and say goodbye to this dude.

Customer Buzz
I bought this as a gift for my husband, as I broke the one he had bought at Ikea for $1.99. This model was somewhat larger then the Ikea one, and the "pulse" option was definitely a plus! Arrived quickly and packaged well. It's a little cumbersome to store, but definitely more powerful then the cheaper versions.

The Bodum Schiuma (whatever a Schiuma is) frother whips up hot or cold milk to pour over coffee, stirs in powders such as chocolate, soups, and protein mixes, and can even get a froth going in an easy margarita one containing equilla with a bottle of liquid mix). WHile Bodum recommends cold milk, I've found it works fine with warm milk too. YOu can ever get a bubbly top with coffee already mixed with milk, although you won;t get that meringue like consistency obtained through whipping the milk separately.

It's a simple appliance, running on two AA batteries, and costs less than the comparable "Bonjour" frother. The Bonjour comes with a stand, and I found this easy to knock over accidently. NO stand for the Bodum, so you'll have to keep it in a clean, airy place if you're making several cups of something. The Bodum has a slightly shorter stirring rod than the Bonjour, but this makes no difference on its functionality (it's how you use it). You can dip it deep inside a liquid for stirring, and/or submerge just the tip at a slight angle for frothing. Experimentation helps keep the froth in the cup and off the walls.

The Bodum Schiuma makes a great (and inexpensive) gift, that your giftees will appreciate, especially those unaware that there's such a device. If you don't already have one, consider buying rechargeable batteries and a battery recharger For close to three times the cost, Bonjour offers a self-recharging model. I use the frother several times a week; it's not just an "ooh" and "awww" mechanism; rather, it keeps on satisfying.

Customer Buzz
Easy to use, compact and I've been getting good results with whole, warm milk. Mine lasted about a year and a half, but I got my money's worth out of it and am eager to replace it with the same product.

Customer Buzz
This product it is pretty nice, one of the thing I really don't like is that you can't separate the mixer from the base at the moment of wash it!

Customer Buzz
The first thing that caught my eyes was the design. It's sleek and affordable. I've used it almost every day for 1 month now, and it's preforming up to the standard. I use my own rechargeable batteries, which works like those expensive rechargeable frother. My advise, don't get those rechargeable one, they are very expensive. The down for this frother is that there is no instruction of how and where to put in the batteries. Well, you just have to pull out the top of it carefully and insert the batteries. It's that easy.
